Stonington — Gladys L. Chudy of Lord’s Point passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 27, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Norwich Aug. 12, 1924, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Troeger) Levitsky. A lifelong resident of the Taftville and Stonington areas, Gladys was a 1942 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and went on to graduate from ECSU in 1975 with her master’s degree. While at NFA, she developed lifelong friendship­s with a group of ladies known as “The Girls” and they remained in close contact for the rest of their lives.

Gladys worked as a teacher in the Norwich School System from 1971 to 1986. On Nov. 27, 1947, in Taftville Congregati­onal Church, she was united in marriage to Stanley V. Chudy; he passed away Aug. 25, 2006. Gladys was a lifelong member of Taftville Congregati­onal Church, where she served as clerk and historian, she was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Norwich Teachers League.

She is survived by her son, Carl L. Chudy and his wife, Mary, of Stonington; two daughters, Eileen Morehouse, also of Stonington, and Donna Hughes and her husband, William, of Taftville; six grandchild­ren, Jack Morehouse, Amy Noto, Russell Hughes, Christophe­r Hughes, Katherine Hughes and Martha Chudy; seven great-grandchild­ren; and her sister-in-law, Nina Chudy of Lisbon.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Taftville Congregati­onal Church. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Godere Funeral Home, 21 North 2nd Ave., Taftville.
