East Lyme Aquatics & Fitness Center Red Cross Lifeguard Certificat­ion Course — Dec. 27-30, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.; to be eligible for the class, participan­ts must be at least 15 years of age, be able to swim 300 yards continuous­ly, tread water for two minutes with just their legs and complete a timed event involving a 10-pound brick. Upon successful completion of the course, participan­ts will receive an American Red Cross certificat­e that is valid for two years.
