Police say Pawcatuck man, 78, charged with soliciting man in 20s

-

Stonington — Police arrested an elderly Pawcatuck man Tuesday and charged him with soliciting a man in his 20s for sex on Feb. 4.

Kenneth M. Wilcox, 78, of 45 Fellows St. was charged with solicitation from a motor vehicle. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on March 1.

Police said the alleged victim reported to police that he was walking along a street in downtown Pawcatuck when Wilcox pulled up in his car and offered the man money for no reason.

The man told police he was going to accept the money because he had just been laid off and needed money.

The man said that when he told Wilcox he would accept the money, Wilcox told him to get in the car and he would give him the money.

As they drove, the man said Wilcox told him that he would “have to do something for him” to get the money, according to a police report.

The man said Wilcox then made a gesture that led him to believe that “the something” he had to do was sexual in nature.

The man told police he became uncomfortable and got out of the car as soon as it stopped. Police said the man gave a detailed account of the incident and they applied for a warrant for Wilcox’s arrest. After obtaining the warrant, they pulled Wilcox over on Tuesday just before noon and arrested him.
