Hot stuff on a cold day

- — Kristina Dorsey

The chowders served at the annual Cabin Fever Festival and Charity Cook-Off tend to be entertainingly varied but have one thing in common: they are delicious.

A culinary collection of chowders will be served on Saturday at Olde Mistick Village as the merchants host this event for the 14th year.

Even better than the flavorful soups: the money raised by the purchases goes to a good cause, The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center Emergency Food Pantry.

The chowders will be cooked up by more than 20 restaurants and caterers, and the results will be judged in several categories, including the “People’s Choice,” voted on by members of the public.

Entertainment abounds, too, including music by the Childbloom Guitar All Stars with Lou Manzi, and the Final Cut a cappella group from Ledyard High School; a police K9 unit demo by the Stonington Police Department; and a “Touch & Learn” program by The Mystic Aquarium. Cabin Fever Festival and Charity Cook-Off, noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Olde Mistick Village, Coogan Boulevard, Mystic; chowder tickets are $1 each for a 3-ounce cup of chowder; 12 tickets sold for $10; (860) 536-4941.
