The Day

Tale as old as time

- — Kristina Dorsey

Tanglewood Marionettes have become staples at East Lyme Puppetry Project performances. The group whose previous performances here included “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella” will return on Sunday for a production of “Hansel and Gretel.”

Large, hand-crafted marionettes bring to life this classic fairy tale. This “Hansel and Gretel,” set in the mid-1800s, incorporates music from the Humperdinck opera “Hansel and Gretel.”

Audience members might want to get to the East Lyme Community Center early, since puppeteers will give a demonstration before the performance. And they might want to stay afterward, when the Tanglewood folks will hold a question-and-answer session.

This show raises money for Care and Share. Tickets are $5, plus a canned good or cash donation to Care Share, with the food distributed to families in need in East Lyme and Salem.
