Around the region
• The Endicott College women's lacrosse team has three players from southeastern Connecticut on the roster in junior attack Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme), sophomore defender Julia Strycharz (Old Lyme) and freshman midfielder Riley Aspinwall (East Lyme). They have helped the Gulls post a 4-3 record. Freshman defender Josh Turkowski of Old Lyme competes for the men's lacrosse team.
• Central Connecticut State University outfielder Buddy Dewaine, a freshman from Montville, ranks third on the team in batting (.308) and RBI (10).
• East Lyme's Paige Schneider and Groton's Michelina Pinto helped propel the Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team off to a program-best 6-1 start. Schneider leads the Warriors in scoring with 25 goals and two assists and Pinto, a Fitch graduate, is second with 16 goals and 11 assists. • Adam Goss, a junior left-handed pitcher from Waterford, has made a team-high nine appearances out of the bullpen for the Franklin Pierce baseball team. He's allowed two runs in three innings, striking out two and walking two.
• Two former multiple all-state selections from the Eastern Connecticut Conference will meet on the softball diamond next month in Ivy League action. Ex-Fitch standout pitcher Caroline Taber and her Princeton team will visit Penn and ex-Wheeler star Raven Houck on April 15 in Philadelphia. Both are freshmen. Taber has made just one appearance so far while Houck, an infielder, has played in 13 games, starting two.
• Sara Buscetto, a freshman from Waterford, went 3-for-5 in Southern Connecticut State University's doubleheader loss to Mercy last week to improve her overall batting average to .250. Senior Holly Noe, a Fitch graduate, has a double in her only two at-bats this season.
• Saint Joseph guard Carlee Putnam, a senior from Niantic, participated in the New England Women's Basketball Association Senior All-Star Classic on Saturday. She averaged 15.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals while starting all 25 games for the Blue Jays.
