Arcadia, Fla. — Robert “Bob” E. Dow, 76, a resident of Arcadia, formerly of Old Lyme, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 28, 2017, at Tidewell Hospice in Arcadia, with his loving wife by his side.

He was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Pownal, Maine, the son of Eugene E. Dow and Phyllis (Lee) Dow. Bob was a graduate of Portland High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961, in the Mediterran­ean, aboard the USS Pocono. On June 16, 1963, he married Linda Marie Clark at her family homestead in Old Lyme. Bob worked for General Dynamics at the Groton facility for 15 years, working in the electrical department and teaching the apprentice­ship program, and later as carpenter supervisor. He also worked at Uarco Inc. printing company in Deep River in the customer service department for 15 years. Bob later worked in sales and marketing part-time, which gave he and his wife, Linda, the freedom to travel throughout the country for 14 years in their RV. They wintered in Florida, and enjoyed going on numerous cruises during their stay there.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Clark Dow of Arcadia, Fla., and Old Lyme; sons, David Dow and his wife, Kathleen, of Quaker Hill and Brian Dow and his wife, Sheila, of Old Lyme; his daughter, Dawn McCarthy and her husband, Robert, also of Old Lyme; grandchild­ren Jeremy, Allyson and Danielle McCarthy, Kayla VanVoorhie­s, Briana and Christophe­r Dow, and Kaitlyn, Kody and Kristopher Dow; and his sister, Joan Valley and her husband, Stanley, of Greenbrier, Ark.

He was predecease­d by his parents, Eugene and Phyllis Dow; and his daughter, June Dow.

A private gathering will be held in Maine.
