Old Mystic — Robert “Bob” Williams, 85, of Old Mystic, died unexpected­ly on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at The Westerly Hospital.

He was the son of the late Horace Williams and Mildred (Austin) Williams. He was born on May 31, 1931, in Groton and raised in Old Mystic. He graduated from Fitch Senior High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean War assigned to the 1828 287th Refrigerat­ion Company. Sgt. Williams received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Merit Unit Commendati­on GO 896 8th Army, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He attended apprentice school at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics and worked at EB for 39 years as a senior designer in the piping engineerin­g department. Mr. Williams was an avid golfer with four holes-in-one and was a member of Elmridge Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ellen (Whitford) Williams; and a brother, Edward S. Williams and his wife, Ruth Williams; as well as several nieces, nephews, and grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws.

In addition to his parents, he is predecease­d by his sisters, Eleanor (Williams) Cooke and Elizabeth (Williams) Williams.

His family will greet relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A private funeral service and burial in Elm Grove Cemetery with full military honors will be held on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his memory be made to Old Mystic Methodist Church, P.O. Box 542, Old Mystic, CT 06372.
