What’s happening at the O’Neill Center this summer

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford has announced its 2017 summer season of plays, musicals and other works in development. The programs include:

National Puppetry Conference Performances June 16 and 17 Artists leading the conference intensives include Ronnie Burkett, Melissa Dunphy, Alice Gottschalk, Martin P. Robinson and many others. Director, puppet designer and writer Mervyn Millar ("War Horse," "Circus 1903") joins in with his workshop "Signs of Life."

National Music Theatre Conference June 24-July 14 The musicals selected for development are: "Home Street Home" with book by Fat Mike and Soma Snakeoil with David Goldsmith, music by Fat Mike, and lyrics by Fat Mike, Jeff Marx ("Avenue Q") and Soma Snakeoil "iLLA! A Hip Hop Musical" with book by J Kyle Manzay and Ronve O'Daniel, lyrics by O'Daniel, and music by Jevares Myrick and O'Daniel "Superhero" with book by John Logan and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt ("Next to Normal")

National Playwrights Conference July 5-29 The plays chosen for the conference: "We Are Among Us" by Stephen Belber "The Quiet Ones" by Mary Hamilton "Queens" by Martyna Majok "Exposure" by Steve DiUbaldo "Title IX" by Elaine Romero "The One ATM in Antarctica" by Adam Esquenazi Douglas "Black Super Hero Magic Mama" by Inda Craig-Galvan "Assisted Living" by Michael Tucker

Cabaret & Performance Conference Aug. 2-12 Headliners include Judy Kuhn, Christina Bianco and Brad Simmons, Tracy Stark, Spencer Day, Barb Jungr and John McDaniel, and Michele Lee. Also part of the summer at the O'Neill will be National Theater Institute Theatermakers June 19-July 24; National Critics Institute July 1-15; and Summer Gala July 22 to honor National Music Theater Conference founding artistic director Paulette Haupt.
