Anna Di Garbo
Pawcatuck — Anna (Cordone) Di Garbo, 85, of Pawcatuck, beloved wife to Giuseppe Di Garbo, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 26.
Born in Castelbuono, a town in the province of Palermo, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Provvidenza (Rustici) Cordone. Throughout her childhood, Anna would spend time in the countryside (Campagna) with her parents, brothers, relatives, and friends to celebrate life events, while creating memories she shared with others. She learned unique trades and crafts that she later taught others she encountered.
As a young girl, Anna corresponded with her family living in the United States, which led her to the desire to meet her first cousins. Before moving to the United States, Anna married her lifetime companion and began raising her family. She worked at Connecticut Casting Co. in Pawcatuck until her retirement in 1994. She loved embroidering, crocheting and knitting special detailed gifts. Anna often traveled home to Sicily to vacation, to enjoy her home and to spend time with family and friends. Anna welcomed everyone into her home. Anna treasured and adored her children, grandchildren, family and friends who will all miss her deeply.
In addition to her husband, she leaves three children, Anna Di Garbo of Pawcatuck, Prudence (Di Garbo) Ciardullo of Stonington and Joseph Di Garbo and his wife, Kathryn, of Ledyard; a brother, Mariano Cordone and his wife, Giovanna, of Pawcatuck; and three grandchildren, Aaron Ciardullo, Melina and Eva Di Garbo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Pasqualino Cordone, and his wife, Anna.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. Burial will immediately follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Pawcatuck. There are no calling hours.
