Old Lyme advances to Shoreline Conference semis

Old Lyme — Matt Kane pitched a five-hitter as second-seeded Old Lyme High School beat No. 7 Old Saybrook 8-3 in a Shoreline Conference baseball tournament quarterfin­al Tuesday.

The Wildcats (10-11) host No. 3 Haddam-Killingwor­th in a semifinal at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. H-K beat No. 6 Coginchaug 2-0.

Kane struck out seven with three walks. Jace Funaro, Griffin Powers and Ron Losacano had two hits each for Old Lyme.

ECC tournament

• Quarterfin­al round matchups are set in the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference tournament, which has revised its schedule (due to the forecast for heavy rain on Thursday) and will play its quarters and semifinals on Wednesday.

At Waterford, top-seeded Waterford will play No. 9 Fitch at 1 p.m., followed by No. 5 Stonington vs. No. 13 Wheeler at 4. The two winners will then meet in the semifinals at 7 p.m. At Fitch, No. 2 Lyman Memorial plays No. 10 St. Bernard at 1 p.m., followed by No. 3 East Lyme vs. No. 6 Bacon Academy at 4. Those two winners will then meet in the semis at 7 p.m.

The championsh­ip game is still scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Fitch. In Tuesday's first round: • Matt Malcom went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI as No. 3 East Lyme defeated No. 14 Woodstock Academy 9-2.

Luke Leonard added two hits and scored a pair of runs for the Vikings (19-2) to back the pitching of Ryan Kane and Blake Bragaw. Kane went 5.1 innings and improved to 7-0 while Bragaw was perfect in 1.2 innings of relief.

• Freshman Tucker Freeman pitched a four-hitter as No. 10 St. Bernard beat No. 7 Montville 3-0. Freeman struck out four with two walks. Brandon Beck had two hits and Mason Knutson drove in a run for the Saints (9-12). Byron Dewaine had two hits and Dan Kobyluck pitched a six-hitter with four strikeouts for Montville (11-10).

• Connor McCrea pitched a threehit shutout as No. 9 Fitch routed No. 8 Norwich Free Academy 10-0. Nick Helbig and Michael Williams had three hits apiece for the Falcons (912) while McCrea added two. NFA is 8-13.

• Matt Shane pitched a four-hitter as No. 6 Bacon beat No. 11 Ledyard 4-0. Shane (5-1) struck out nine with one walk. Bacon (10-9) scored three runs in the fourth inning on two bases-loaded walks and an error. Ledyard (12-9) left four runners in scoring position.
