Norwich man sought by FBI on drug charges turns himself in
Norwich — Police arrested a Preston woman on multiple charges stemming from a motor vehicle chase late Friday night through the West Side, onto Interstate 395 and ending in Yantic, police said.
Kathryn M. Futone, 25, of 16 Miller Road, Preston, was charged with traveling unreasonably fast, failure to obey traffic control signal, failure to have headlights lit, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, evading responsibility, striking a police officer with a motor vehicle and unsafe backing. She was released on a $10,000 nonsurety bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on June 1.
Police Lt. James Veiga said the incident started at 10:34 p.m. Friday, when an officer spotted Futone’s Hyundai Santa Fe without headlights lit on West Main Street near North Thames Street. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over when she engaged officers in pursuit westbound on West Main and Salem Turnpike, Veiga said. She then entered I-395 northbound.
Veiga said Futone pulled over on the highway and the pursuing officer pulled beside her in an effort to block her departure when she allegedly drove away, striking the cruiser and causing moderate damage to the passenger side and front fender. Veiga said the officer was not injured in the collision.
She exited the highway onto West Town Street, stopped and was taken into custody without further incident, he said.
