Waterford — Police on Wednesday arrested the man they said stole a donation jar from the Hess gas station on Boston Post Road earlier this month.

Thirty-four-year-old Joseph Tonelli, who has several listed addresses, was charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with the theft of the jar, which was for the Friday’s Dog Rescue Foundation.

Tonelli additionally was charged on warrants with two counts of failure to appear in court.

Members of the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force assisted in the arrest of Tonelli, who was due in New London Superior Court on Wednesday morning.

In a Facebook post, police thanked the public for helping them identify a suspect.
