Come on, Vogue

- — Kristina Dorsey

Every time En Vogue comes to the region, I hope against hope that Dawn Robinson will be back onboard as one of the funky divas.

Robinson grew up in New London and hit the big time as part of En Vogue during its monster-hits era, when they were all over radio stations and music-video channels with “Free Your Mind,” “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” and “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It).”

So I love that she’s got local ties, but I also love what Robinson’s voice brought to En Vogue — character and, as Tyra Banks would say, fierceness.

She left En Vogue in 1997, returning for a few brief stints, but she went on to be part of the platinum-selling group Lucy Pearl and to carve out her own solo career.

Well, my hopes are dashed this time around. It’s a Robinson-less En Vogue that comes to Foxwoods, but, that said, it should be a really solid show. The headliner is New Jack Swing kings Bell Biv Devoe (“Poison,” “Do Me”), and the bill continues with Guy, SWV, and En Vogue, which is turning it out with current members Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron and Rhona Bennett. Bell Biv Devoe, with Guy, SWV, and En Vogue, 8 p.m. Friday, Foxwoods’ Grand Theater; $54-$105; 1-800-200-2882.
