Waterford — Marion Q. Thomas, of Waterford, passed away at home with her family on May 23, 2017.

Marion was born on May 15, 1923, and raised in Scranton, Pa. close to her extended family. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Quinn, who immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland.

She was married to the love of her life, Raymond Thomas, until his death in 1984.

She enjoyed working until age 75, preferring work related to cooking and nutrition services. After retirement, she moved to Waterford to be close to her family. She made fast friends and enjoyed quilting and social activities at the Waterford Senior Center. Marion enjoyed reading recipe books, visiting family, cooking and traveling. She was known to her grandchild­ren as “Nonnie.”

Her unwavering Catholic faith sustained her throughout her life.

She is survived by daughters, Nannette Thomas of Waterford and Mare Secrist of Longview, Wash.; cousin, Thomas Honold of Edwardsvil­le, Pa.; grandchild­ren, Raymond Butchko, Sean Breslin, Sarah, Julianne, Ayla, Andrew and Tim Secrist; brother, Bernard Quinn of Scranton, Pa.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predecease­d by her sisters, Elizabeth Kilker and Ann Doran and brothers, Francis, Gerard and Eugene.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Marion’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, at Saint Matthias Church in East Lyme, with a calling hour at 10 a.m. in the church prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waterford Senior Center or the Center for Hospice Care of Southeaste­rn CT.
