PAWCATUCK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Stonington — The Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center has named Susan Sedensky of Mystic as its new executive director.

She will replace longtime executive director Vicki Anderson, who will step down later this month after 15 years.

Sedensky, who has worked as the director of adoption services at Catholic Charities in Norwich for the past 10 years, was among more than 30 candidates for the position. The center’s board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of a seven-member search committee to hire Sedensky, an attorney.

PNC board president, the Rev. Joshua McClure, said in a statement that the board is thrilled that Sedensky is the new director.

“Our board looks forward to a long and bright future as we work together to meet the needs” of people in the Stonington, North Stonington and Westerly communities, he said.

“We had some very good candidates, but Susan came through as a thoroughly competent individual with a good grasp of the needs of an organization like the PNC,” said board member and seach committee Chairman Stephen White. “She has a strong background in nonprofit work, and that was a big plus for us.”

Prior to Catholic Charities, Sedensky worked as the coordinator of site-based services for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut.

“I look forward to working with the PNC board, staff and volunteers and continuing the good work that the PNC has done for more than 30 years,” she said in a statement. “We’ll see what the future brings, including the possibility of adding new programs and services, but increasing awareness of local hunger and stressing the need to keep our new freezer/cooler units filled with donated food will be important to me.”
