Police rush to disturbance at Ocean Beach Park, arrest two

-

New London — An incident that brought numerous police cars from throughout the region to Ocean Beach Park on Saturday evening began with a report of a woman striking a child, according to New London police.

About 6:07 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting a young woman striking a child in the face in a parking lot at the park. An officer who was assigned to the park went to the scene to investigate, according to a news release issued by police late Saturday night.

Multiple people approached the officer, claiming that a woman who had tried to intervene had been assaulted. Police said they later determined that Ciara Subrian, 25, of East Hartford had struck the woman with a purse, then punched her several times. When the officer approached Subrian, she struck the officer and resisted arrest, according to the release.

Robert Carrion-Rivera, 20, of Holyoke, Mass., then began to interfere as the officer was attempting to arrest Subrian, the release said. A crowd had formed by that time, prompting the officer to request assistance.

New London and other area police agencies rushed to the park. Numerous cruisers crowded the parking lot near the concession stand buildings, and officers were seen walking along the boardwalk and interviewing beachgoers.

Subrian was taken into custody, but Carrion-Rivera attempted to run away, the release said. Police chased him on foot through the Neptune Beach area and found him hiding behind a Bentley Avenue residence.

Subrian was charged with risk of injury, third-degree assault, assault on a police officer, interfering with police and breach of peace. Police said she also was cited for possession of marijuana.

Carrion-Rivera was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with police, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

No further information was available.
