LANDLORD ASSOCIATION TO HOLD MEETING

New London — The first meeting of the New London chapter of the Connecticut Property Owners Alliance will be held Thursday at the Holiday Inn on Governor Winthrop Boulevard.

Bob DeCosmo, president of the statewide organization of landlords with offices in Berlin and Waterbury, said the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. with networking, followed by 6:30 p.m. presentations by local eviction expert Yona Gregory, the organization Capital for Change and the Tenant Screening Company.

DeCosmo said attorney Peter Hoops and developer Frank McLaughlin are among those who have been helping to organize the landlord group. Members of the Eastern Connecticut Association of Realtors have been invited.

“We’re in it for the long haul,” DeCosmo said in a phone interview Friday. “This is our first outreach to the public.”

DeCosmo will be speaking on the newly completed database of New London Housing Court cases that now allows landlords to search back seven years to determine whether potential tenants ever have been evicted. In the past, he said, landlords were largely unable to easily access such records.

Other areas of discussion will revolve around revitalizing neighborhoods, using public funds to make property improvements and landlord best practices.

Southeastern Connecticut used to have a local chapter of the landlord association but it disbanded more than a decade ago.

DeCosmo said about six meetings a year are planned. For more information, call DeCosmo at 1 (800) 369-6153 or visit the website ctpoa.com.
