Norwich — Samuel Faulise Jr., 79, of Norwich, has died at home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Tobin) Johnson. Born in Westerly, he was the oldest son of the late Frances (Castagnaro) Faulise and Samuel Faulise Sr.

He leaves behind three children, Lauren (Michael) Holder of Mashantucket, Mark (Alma) Faulise of Mystic and Jeffrey Faulise of Westerly; former spouse, Kathleen (Johnson); and three grandchildren, Bryan Holder, Christopher Holder and Dean Faulise.

He was the brother of Delores (Richard) Magaraci of Cranston, R.I., Robert Faulise and Carmela (Daniel) Evans of Westerly; and was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony R. and Anthony J.

Sammy was an avid sportsman and spent the majority of his life camping, canoeing, boating, hunting and most of all fishing. He was a former member of the American Bass Association. One of his proudest moments was catching two giant striped bass off of Charlestown Beach in Rhode Island; one weighing 50 lbs.; the other 46 lbs. He left behind great memories camping on the beach in a converted bread truck.

After retiring from American Hoescht Corporation in Coventry, R.I., he purchased land close to Canada in the town of Lincoln, Maine off the Penobscot River. He was very creative and innovative and built a cabin in Pawcatuck, and painstakingly transported it all the way to Maine to fulfill his lifetime dream. He very much enjoyed his time there with nature and the wild where he could hunt and fish from his own backyard.

The family would like to thank the Ambulatory Medical Center (AMC) Department at Backus Hospital in Norwich for their kindness as well as Dr. Yang and Paula; Three Rivers Health Care of Norwich, especially Kristy, Kelly, Mark, Bridget, Angela, Kailyn, Eric and Kate for their compassion and support; Jonathan and Elsa at Woyasz & Son Funeral Service and Father Tony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Norwich, Center for Hospice Care, Southeast CT and a big thank you to Anthony at Blackstone Apartments in Norwich.
