Merrill said Stone was living at a residence in the neighborhood at the time. Saybrook Fire Departments, the East Lyme fire marshal’s office, and the East Lyme police responded. The Ryder rental truck was about a foot too high to pass under the bridge, said New London Fire Department Battalion Chief Edward Sargent. The front seat passenger was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, and the driver was uninjured.

Amtrak officials were notified and came to inspect the site at 11:28 a.m., and found no damage to the bridge, an Amtrak spokesperson said.
