New London — Frances “Tyke” C. Nocery, 85, of New London and Florida, died peacefully Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Nocery was born on Jan. 23, 1932, in New London. She was the third of four children born to Merton and Jessie Tiffany and is survived by her eldest sister, Gloria Doris Mullins. She is predecease­d by her older brother, Herbert M. Tiffany, and younger sister, Barbara A. Robinson.

Frances was married for 58 years to George A. Nocery, who recently passed away in May. She is survived by her five children, Debra Ouderkirk Balch (Bradley) of Virginia Beach, Va., George A. Nocery Jr. (Glenda) of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Robin Nocery Collins (Steve) of New London, Mia Nocery Berube (Kirk) of New London, and Dean E. Nocery (Shauna) of Waterford. She is also survived by five grandchild­ren, Erin Balch Richburg, Amanda Lemmon Gauger, Sarah E. Balch, Mason A. Nocery and Stephan Collins Dunfrund, and six great-grandchild­ren, Aurora, Peyton, Emberly, Jayden, Ryker and Mickayla.

Frances thoroughly enjoyed her years working at Greentree Manor and worked her way to therapeuti­c recreation­al director after earning her associates degree from Mitchell College. After 25 years she retired in 2001, having made many lifelong friendship­s. She was passionate about family and loved spending time together. She spent hours researchin­g genealogy. She was very creative and enjoyed a variety of crafts throughout her life. She loved to read, especially books about dogs because they reminded her of her beloved golden retriever, Buddy, of 13 years.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Pequot Chapel, 857 Montauk Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for both Frances and husband George after the memorial service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New London.
