Three charged with assault after Norwich brawl

Norwich — Three local men were arrested on assault charges Sunday morning following a fight involving a pipe and a knife that sent two of them to the hospital, police said.

The series of incidents started at 2:11 a.m. Sunday, when Lorenzo Vincente, 31, of 134 Broadway was charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with a police officer following a disturbance at Mi Casa Restaurant on Main Street, police said.

Following his release, Vincente and an acquaintance with him at the restaurant, Ismael Perez-Osorio, 28, of 61 Union St., went to Vincente’s home to drink and hang out, police said. Perez-Osorio departed at one point and later returned to Vincente’s home with Israel L. Avila, 28, also of 61 Union St.

Avila allegedly carried a pipe and struck Vincente several times in the head while Perez-Osorio was punching Vincente. Police said Vincente had a knife and was waving it back and forth. Perez-Osorio was cut in the hand when he attempted to grab the knife, police said. Vincente suffered lacerations to the head. He and Perez-Osorio were transported to The William W. Backus Hospital for treatment.

Police said the 7 a.m. fight occurred outside Vincente’s Broadway home and was reported to police by a neighbor. Four officers and a police sergeant responded and were not injured.

In addition to the earlier charges, Vincente was charged at 7 a.m. with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon. He was held on a $10,000 cash bond and was arraigned Monday in Norwich Superior Court.

Perez-Osorio was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He was released on a $5,000 nonsurety bond.
