Najamay Moutran

Wells, Maine — Najamay Evelyn (Jaber) Moutran, 96 years young, of Wells, died early Tuesday morning, July 11, 2017, at Avita of Wells.

She was born in Calexico, Calif., on Jan. 6, 1921, the eldest daughter and one of eight children to Azeez S. and Beatrice C. (Castro) Jaber. At a young age, she moved with her family to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she attended school and eventually met her sweetheart and future husband, Albert Charles Moutran. They were married in February 1942 and lived in Hawaii throughout World War II. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together until his death in 2010. While in Honolulu, Najamay worked as a secretary for Hawaiian Electric Company. In 1946, Najamay, Albert, and their son, Alan, moved to the mainland. They lived in several locations, including Phoenix, Ariz., where Najamay worked as a secretary for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department. In the 1970s they moved to Niantic, where they lived for many years happily along the ocean.

Najamay was blessed with abundant good health, and she guarded it fiercely. She loved to walk the boardwalk in Niantic and enjoyed being near the water. She liked to garden, and was an avid sports fan, especially for her beloved Red Sox and Patriots. She was a fan of tennis and golf, as well. She laughed easily, loved her family deeply, was grateful and will be missed by all.

She is predeceased by her husband, Albert; her son, Alan Wayne; brothers, Omar, Charles and Carl; and sisters, Effie and Naomi.

Najamay is survived by a sister, Warde Whiteman of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Adam Jaber (and his wife, Barbara) of Honolulu, Hawaii; two granddaughters, Meredith LaPierre (and her husband, Sean) of Brentwood, N.H. and Melanie Moutran of Kennebunkport, Maine; her loving great-granddaughter, Olivia LaPierre; former daughter-in-law, Julia Spencer; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews throughout the country.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be interred alongside her husband Albert.
