Pawcatuck — Joan (Ferguson) Stroud, 82, of Pawcatuck, passed away at the Westerly Hospital on Friday, July 14, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Robert (Bob) R. Stroud, whom she married on June 22, 1957.

Born in Westerly on June 25, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alexander McKinley and Anna Marie (Patton) Ferguson.

Joan was a 1953 graduate of Westerly High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. During her school years, she attended the Pawcatuck Congregati­onal Church and sang in the church choir.

After high school, Joan worked for the George C. Moore Co., where she met Bob, the love of her life. Joan was happiest when she was caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing meals at the family table. After her children started school, Joan worked for Old Stone Bank, the Westerly Community Credit Union, and New England Savings Bank. After working for 16 years in banking, Joan retired to care for her husband Bob, until his passing on Nov. 28, 2011.

Joan was a member of Calvary Church in the Borough of Stonington. She enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchild­ren, singing and listening to music, working in her flower gardens, watching the New York Yankees on television and at the stadium, attending concerts, and taking cross-country road trips during school vacations.

Surviving are her sister, Alexandra G. (Ferguson) Rankin of Auburn, Maine; her brother, William B.D. Ferguson and his wife, Sharron, of Pawcatuck; and her five children, Robert A.J. Stroud, Mark A. Stroud, John G. Stroud, Susan A. (Stroud) Pica and Eric D. Stroud. Joan was a beloved Grandma and Grammy to five grandchild­ren, Michael J. Stroud, Amanda L. Stroud, John G. Stroud II, Anthony J. Pica and Brandon J. Pica.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, the Mystic Medical Group, Royal Westerly, and the Westerly Hospital who cared for Joan during recent years.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.

Funeral service will be private and burial will be at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
