Paul Jakoboski
Coventry — Paul Franklin Jakoboski, TSSF, 65, of Coventry and New London, passed peacefully on July 15, 2017.
He was born in Hartford on Nov. 12, 1951, to Iola (Mae Houghton) and Walter Jakoboski. Paul earned a BA degree in philosophy from the University of Hartford. Paul’s professional career in the wire and cable industry lead him to positions in Connecticut, Colorado and California, culminating as a president of Victor Corp. in Rhode Island. Later in his career, he served as director of the Gemma Moran United Way Labor Food Bank SECT, New London. He was a brother in the Third Order, Society of St. Francis (TSSF). He served on boards for many charitable organizations including the Homeless Hospitality Center in New London and F.R.E.S.H., also in New London. He was part of the community at St. Francis House in New London for many years.
Paul’s passion was sailing his boat, “Thin Place,” named after the thin veil between this world and the next. He also served as treasurer of Sea Legs, an organization bringing the joy of sailing to others. His most recent travel was to Iona, Scotland’s “thin place” between earth and heaven. Paul is survived by his wife, Wendy (Hannon), and his stepchildren who brought him joy, Josh Hannon, Matt and wife, Jessica Hannon, Lisa (Hannon) and husband, David Stargardter, Caroline Hannon, and Rebecca Hannon. His siblings include Walter and wife, Judi Jakoboski, Jean Jakoboski, Donald and wife, Janet Jakoboski, and Philip and wife, Linda Jakoboski; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will begin at 5 p.m., with a Compline at 7 p.m., on Friday, July 21, at St. James Poquetanuck Church, Preston. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the same church. Burial will follow at the Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Road, Lebanon.
