Rose Daniels

Chesterfield — Rose Marie Anne (Lovely) (Hary) Daniels passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Bride Brook Rehab Center in Niantic.

The daughter of John and Emma (Charboneau) Lovely, Rose started her life’s journey in Norton Mills, Vt. on Nov. 27, 1921. Her family moved to Hartford, where she met and married Albert Hary Sr. They had seven children. She moved to Chesterfield in the early ’40s. Al and Rose divorced in 1956.

She met Norman Fred Daniels from Niantic and they were married on Jan. 25, 1958.

Rose was employed by Robertson Paper Box in Montville for 35 years and retired March 3, 1984. She was a quality control inspector at the time of her retirement.

Everyone knew her for her love of golf. She was a member of the Montville Golf League for many years. She was an avid golfer and played courses all over Connecticut. She was even known to go to other countries in the winter just to play the game after her retirement. The New York Yankees was her favorite team and she loved to tease the families of Red Sox fans. Another passion was shopping. She loved clothes. She could “shop until she dropped.”

Rose was a charter member of the Chesterfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary formed in 1948. She was honored for her service at their 50th anniversary in 1998.

When she wasn’t golfing, she loved going to bingo and to Mohegan Sun to play slot machines. Rather than give gifts at her 85th birthday, everyone contributed to her “Gambling Basket,” which she put to good use.

Norman and Rose were known for loading up all the kids from Chesterfield and going to the Norwich-New London Drive-In on Saturday nights in the back of Norm’s truck. When Rose was on vacation, she would take her children and anyone else who could fit in her station wagon to Ocean Beach. There was always a constant stream of kids coming and going at the house.

Rose was predeceased by her husband, Norman; daughter, Marie Jerome; son-in-law, Richard Jerome; daughter-inlaw, Judy (Roselund) Hary; son, Albert (Bob) Hary Jr.; and her brother, Albert Lovely.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Moore (Floyd) of Lake Isabella, Calif., Judy Libera (Paul) of East Lyme and Rose Kovalik of Lisbon; and sons, Peter Hary of Waterford and Roger Hary (Linda) of Chesterfield. Also, 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

One of the best gifts she gave to her children was her sense of humor. Her whole family inherited that love for fun and laughter.

The family would like to thank everyone at Bride Brook Rehab Center for all the care they provided to our mom during her last few months with us.

There are no calling hours. Everyone is invited to a “Celebration of Rose’s Life” from 1 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the Polish American Citizens’ Club, Maple Avenue, Montville.
