Florence Barth
East Lyme — Florence Ruth Barth, 93, of Niantic died Thursday, July 20, 2017, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Barth was born on Jan. 12, 1924, in New London, the daughter of Henry and Jesse (Phillips) Dempsey. She was a 1942 graduate of Williams Memorial Institute in New London. She completed her nurses training program in Norwalk, and after school, served in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She was employed as a registered nurse at Lawrence + Memorial for over 40 years as an operating room and emergency room nurse. She was a three-time breast cancer survivor and supported the breast cancer survivor program at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for many years. She also volunteered at the East Lyme Senior Center.
She is predeceased by her husband, Russell Barth, in 1996.
Mrs. Barth is survived by her daughters, Sandra Wayne and her husband, James, of Norwich and Joanne Izzo and her husband, Carl, of Florida; two grandchildren, Brian Wayne and his wife, Regina; and Trina Marchbanks and her husband, Robert; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Gillian and Magdelen, all of Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017, in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic.
