Robert Maguire
Mystic — Robert F. Maguire, “Bob,” passed away Thursday, July 20, at his home in Mystic with his family by his side. He is the son of the late Richard and Grace (Purvis) Maguire.
He was born May 25, 1943, and spent most of his life in Ledyard. He was a 1961 graduate of Norwich Technical School.
Bob worked as an electrician after graduation and then founded the R. Maguire Corp., an excavation company that he ran with his wife, Rosalie Maguire, from his home in Ledyard. After retiring in 1995, Bob enjoyed the winters in Orlando, Fla.
He is survived by his older brother, Ralph Maguire of Loudon, N.H.; his three children, Christy Maguire of Ledyard, Amy Maguire of Mystic and Timothy Maguire of New London; five grandchildren, Megan and Nathan Whipple of Mystic, Sarah and Jessica Serbascewicz of Ledyard and Arianna Ingves of New London.
Bob was an accomplished equestrian as a younger man, winning many barrel racing and pole-bending competitions, a talent he passed down to his daughters and granddaughter. He wasn’t afraid of hard work, building his construction company to one of the biggest in the area. Bob was a talented craftsman who could fix or build anything and enjoyed doing it. After retiring, he still enjoyed repairing trucks and heavy equipment. Bob especially enjoyed restoring Brockways. He loved spending time with his friends and children. He especially enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and always had a good joke to tell you. Bob always looked on the brighter side of things and never failed to make you smile. He liked to relax with a good book and ride his golf cart. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His family will receive friends at a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, in Mystic. There will be a celebration of Bob’s life following the service at his home at 881 Noank Ledyard Road in Mystic . All are welcome.
