UConn’s new Nike deal worth $32.45m
Storrs — UConn announced Wednesday that its athletic department has extended an exclusive sponsorship agreement with Nike through the 2022-23 academic year.
Nike, which became the school's exclusive provider in 2008 — the first all-sports deal in UConn history — will continue to provide all UConn teams with uniforms, apparel, footwear, practice gear and equipment, as well as making cash payments to the university.
The total value of the contract extension between UConn and Nike is will be worth $32.45 million in combined product and cash from 2017-23.
"UConn is very proud of the relationship we have had with Nike over the years and now we can look forward to that continuing in the future," athletic director David Benedict said in a release. "The Nike agreement allows our student-athletes to practice and compete with premier sportswear and equipment and also provides our university with important financial resources.”
It was welcome news for the head coaches of UConn's three major sports.
"I was thrilled to hear that UConn will be continuing its long-standing partnership with Nike," women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma said. "Over the years, this relationship has been extremely beneficial to my team and the athletic department at large.”
"It's wonderful that we will continue our association with Nike for years to come," men's basketball coach Kevin Ollie said.
"Nike has been an important part of the development of UConn football and it has given us an important association with their national brand," football coach Randy Edsall said.
