Groton — Town police on Sunday said they arrested a 21-yearold after they found him driving a vehicle he allegedly stole out of New London.

Police said a caller about 11:30 p.m. alerted them to a suspicious red Jeep Cherokee parked on Providence Court in the Poquonnock Bridge section of town.

An officer responded to the area and found a vehicle matching that description traveling westbound on Poquonnock Road. Police said the officer followed the vehicle as it took several turns and learned it had been reported stolen out of New London.

As the vehicle entered the Branford Manor housing complex, police said the officer made a traffic stop and found Coyt M. Taylor of 8 Woodland Drive, Waterford, behind the wheel. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to police.

Police said Taylor was “uncooperative” during the booking process and refused to submit to fingerprinting. Police additionally learned there were two warrants out for Taylor’s arrest, one out of New London and the other out of Stonington.

Taylor was charged with first-degree larceny and failure to submit to fingerprints. He additionally was charged on warrants with two counts of violation of probation.

Arraigned on Monday, Taylor is next due Aug. 21 in New London Superior Court.

Police said the stolen vehicle has been returned to its registered owner.
