Marcella Urbanski
Lighthouse Point, Fla. — Marcella Sophia Urbanski, 80, formerly of Oakdale, died July 18, 2017, in Lighthouse Point, Fla.
Born in Shamokin, Pa., on Nov. 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Przybyszewski) Podvarney. On Jan. 8, 1955, she married John E. Urbanski at Ss. Cyril and Methodius R.C. Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. John predeceased her in 2012.
Marcella moved to Oakdale in 1961, where she raised her family, and later resided in Ocala, Fla., Norwich, and Lighthouse Point, Fla. She was a loving, dedicated and proud wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived for her family. Everyone who loved her could count on a delicious meal when visiting.
Marcella was an avid reader, frequenting libraries wherever she lived. She loved to discuss ideas, debate current affairs, and consider the spiritual universe. Always trying to grow, she took up oil painting, internet “surfing,” email, and became an active Facebook participant, satisfying her passion to stay aware and connected, especially with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Bonnie Urbanski and Mary Vose of Lighthouse Point, Fla., Frank Urbanski and wife, Karen, of St. James, N.C., and Joseph Urbanski and wife, Anita, of Farmington; grandchildren Beth Bohara and husband, Chris, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Laura Urbanski of Farmington, Natasha Vose of Killington, Vt., and John Urbanski of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren Owen and Ethan Bohara of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; sister-in-law, Francis Slawski of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and several nephews and a niece. She was also predeceased by brother, Ronald Podvarney; sister, Sharon Podvarney; niece, Tammy Cirioni Howard; and nephew, Frank Cirioni.
Friends may gather from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 31 at Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville, followed by celebration of a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Uncasville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
