GROTON REPUBLICAN­S ENDORSE CANDIDATES FOR TOWN ELECTION

Groton — Groton Republican­s have endorsed seven incumbents, a former state representa­tive and a member of the Charter Revision Commission for Town Council seats in the coming municipal election.

The Party held a committee meeting July 19 and filed its certificat­e of endorsemen­ts with the town clerk on Wednesday.

For Town Council, Republican­s endorsed incumbent councilors Dean Antipas, Bruce Flax, Diane Marley-Barber, Karen Morton, Bonnie Nault, Deborah Peruzzotti and Harry Watson. The party also endorsed former state Rep. John Scott and Scott Aument, an employee at Millstone Power Station and member of the Groton Charter Revision Commission, for council seats.

Councilor Greg Grimm is not seeking re-election.

For Board of Education, Republican­s endorsed incumbents Andrea Ackerman and Jay Weitlauf and Dan Hetzel, an engineer at Electric Boat.

The party did not endorse a candidate for town clerk.

Nine seats on the Town Council, four seats on the Board of Education, 41 seats on the Representa­tive Town Meeting, and the town clerk’s position are up for election this year.

For RTM, the Republican­s endorsed Karin Adams, John Espada, Nancy Gilly and Joan Steinford in District 1; Jackie Massett, Joshua Trask and Emily Maher in District 2; Irma Streeter, James Streeter and Christophe­r Calkins Jr. in District 3; Robert Bailey, James Evans, Robert Martin, Jonathan Wilson and Susan Marquardt in District 4; Christophe­r Bowen, Susan Deane-Shinbrot, Rosanne Kotowski and Mitchell Shinbrot in District 5; Frederick Kent, Bruce McDermott, Kenneth W. Richards, III, Thomas Frickman and Lawrence Balsley in District 6 and Lynn Crockett Hubbard, Scott Newsome and Carolann Quinn in District 7. High School in 2014. Lozier is the founder and director of the Ledyard Clothing Exchange, which provides clothing to children in need in the region.

Both impressed the nominating committee during interviews, said Mike Cherry, who serves as the nominating subcommitt­ee chairman.

The Ledyard Democratic Town Committee endorsed candidates on Monday night.
