EAST LYME TO DELAY SCHEDULED ROAD WORK FOR TRIATHLON

- — Kimberly Drelich

East Lyme — The town's Public Works Department has delayed until next week the start of work to seal a number of roads in town.

The Public Works Department originally had scheduled the work to start today, but because part of the work is on a triathlon bike route and for the safety of the triathlon participants, the department decided to reschedule.

The work is now scheduled to begin next Tuesday, Aug. 8, but the date could be pushed back due to weather and/or contractor availability, according to the town notice. The roads are:

North Bridebrook Road, from house No. 38 to Route 156, in the southwest corner of town.

Echo Road, Brookline Road, Cubles Drive and Foxcroft Road in the Gorton Lakes area of town.

Laurel Hill Drive, Laurel Hill Drive South, North Ledge Rock Road, South Ledge Rock Road and Valley View Drive in the middle of town.

Calkins Road, Hill Road, River Road, Summit Avenue and Gurley Road in the Gold Spur area of town.

The contractor should start at North Bridebrook Road about 7 a.m. on the first day of the operation and will work through the rest of the roads over the next two to three days, the notice states.

At this time, the contractor will install an oil and gravel (chip seal) surface. After about one to two weeks, the town will sweep up any loose rocks and then the contractor is planning on coming back at the end of the month to install a micro surface over the chip seal to smooth it out, according to the notice.

Drivers should be able to get by the construction work, but should expect travel delays in these areas, the notice states. Anyone with questions should call the department at (860) 691-4118.
