The Villages, Fla. — Elva May (Rubright) Turchan, of The Villages, Fla., and formerly of Salem and Trumbull, widow of the late Edward John Turchan, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, just shy of her 87th birthday.

Born Aug. 2, 1930, in Trafford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Angie (Beacom) Rubright. On Aug. 19, 1952, she and Ed were married in Trafford and both dedicated their lives to education. A voracious reader, both “on and off the clock,” Elva worked as a reading consultant for the City of Bridgeport for many years before her retirement.

Mrs. Turchan found her greatest joy being with her beloved family and helping others. Elva and Ed shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before he predecease­d her on July 21, 2010. She leaves their two children (and their spouses), Victor and Josephine Turchan of Havasu City, Ariz., and Cynthia and Brian Thomas of Salem; five grandchild­ren, Heather, Dylan and Cole Thomas, Brian Meath and his wife, Dara, Jessica Cardinale and her husband, Joe; six great-grandchild­ren; her dear sister, Jean Pultan of The Villages; and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predecease­d by her brother, Glenn Rubright.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. The funeral service will be observed at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, directly at the Congregati­onal Church of Salem, 244 Hartford Road (Route 85), Salem. Burial will follow in the Salem Green Cemetery.
