Richard Proiette

Ledyard — Richard Proiette, 73, of Gales Ferry, husband of Claire Proiette, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

He was born April 20, 1944, in New Haven, to Mario and Mary Proiette. He is survived by his son, Christopher Proiette and his wife, Jennifer, of Norwich, Melanie Dunphy and her husband, Brian, of Chaplin. Richard is the grandfather of Anna, Talia, Sarah and Ben; and is the brother of Mario Proiette Jr. of East Haven and Lucille Valerio of Milford.

Richard served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years, after retirement he was employed at the Coast Guard Academy as a human resource manager.

Richard was a long standing parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry. He actively supported his church as a Eucharistic minister and in perpetual adoration. Richard served as director of religious education for several area churches including Shepard of the Sea in Groton, Sacred Heart in Groton, St. Mary’s in Greenville and Our Lady of Lourdes in Gales Ferry. He was devoted to his wife, Claire, and spent much of his last years tirelessly caring for her.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich.
