Carey Congdon Jr.
New London — Carey Congdon Jr. of New York City, formerly of New London, died Aug. 2, 2017, of cancer, at age 86.
Carey was born on Jan. 10, 1931, son of the late Carey Congdon (a former finance director for the City of New London) and the late Frances Beattie Congdon. He attended Harbor School and graduated from the Bulkeley School. After three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including service in the Korean War, Carey attended Mitchell College and graduated from Wesleyan University.
He began a career in graphic arts as a sales representative for Mead Papers in New York City. He then joined the Maple-Vail Books Manufacturing Group, retiring in 1999. He served as a trustee of the Pequot Chapel in New London and as a vestryman at All Saints Church in New York City. He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret (Bonnie) Congdon of New York City.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal St., New London. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
