Groton — Jenny C. O’Brien, 54, of Groton, lost her brave battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. She passed peacefully with family by her side.

Jenny leaves behind her daughter, Christine T. O’Brien of Groton; sister, Nancy Sorochin and niece, Anna Williams, both of Montville. Other surviving family members include Uncle Lawrence Bentley of South Carolina; and cousins, Donna Duso, David Bentley, Barbara Bentley, and Kelly Duso.

Jenny was born June 6, 1963, in Norfolk, Va. to Marilyn Bentley Sorochin and Edward Sorochin. She grew up and lived and worked in Groton. She graduated from Fitch High School and attended UConn. Growing up she enjoyed bowling and Girl Scouts. Jenny earned the highest award from Girl Scouts, First Class. She became a leader for her daughter’s brownie group and led that troop through seniors. Thus, Jenny’s new calling was being an active member in the Girls Scouts. She was leader/ co-leader for many troops, helping young girls discover their courage, confidence and character through scouting.

Jenny also had a great love of animals throughout her life and passed this love to her daughter. They both enjoyed spending time together with their dogs, either training or at dog agility classes. Casey, Bandit and Sawyer brightened her days with many laughs and smiles.

Donations may be made to Groton Animal Foundation (GAF) in Jenny’s memory.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. in Groton, with a funeral service after visitation at 7 p.m. Interment will be private.
