East Lyme — Arline (Richards) Morris passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Edward V. Morris; three children, Brian W. Morris and his wife, Christine, of Glastonbur­y; Pamela Seibert and her husband, Joseph, of Boston, Mass.; and Richard Morris and his wife, Deborah, of Niantic; three grandchild­ren, Shawn Morris and his wife, Jessica, of Glastonbur­y; Allison Seibert of Cambridge, Mass.; and Brittani Kane and her husband, Matt, of Niantic; and two great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by two sisters, Lois Peterson of Bennington, Vt. and Nancy Redding of Waterford.

Arline was born in Hartford on Aug. 4, 1923, and was the oldest daughter of the late Louis Z. and Winifred Richards of Wethersfie­ld. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford and pursued a career in the capital of Hartford, which concluded after many dedicated years of service to the state with her retirement from the State of Connecticu­t Treasurer’s Office in 1989.

Edward and Arline moved to Niantic in 1952 where they became active in Democratic politics both statewide and in the town of East Lyme. Arline was a loyal 20-year member of the Connecticu­t Democratic State Central Committee which represente­d the 20th Senatorial District. Arline was a honorary member of the Niantic Bay Yacht Club where she served proudly on the race committee for many years. Arline’s family would like to thank Dr. David Thompson, Dr. Constantin­e Manthous, Dr. Abel Donka, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital’s Critical Care Unit and the entire wonderful staff at Bride Brook Rehabilita­tion Center in Niantic.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Thomas L. Neilan Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18, at St. Agnes Church in Niantic, followed by burial at the Niantic Cemetery.
