Attleboro, Mass. — Anthony “Tony” Michael Black died unexpected­ly in Attleboro, Mass. on the 12th of August, 2017.

Anthony was born on Nov. 28, 1991, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, N.Y. to the late Michael Black and Joanna Black. Tony moved to Montville when he was five, where he attended Charles E. Murphy Elementary, Tyl Middle School and graduated from Montville High School in 2010. Tony continued his education at Three Rivers Community College and later decided to pursue his true passion for cooking and graduated from Lincoln Institute of Technology Culinary School in 2013.

Tony had a strong work ethic from the time of his first job at Geno’s Fast Break and then at Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria in Mohegan Sun Casino. While at Pepe’s, he began working management positions which led to opening a new location in Chestnut Hill, Mass., where he was currently employed.

Tony had a passion for music beginning at a young age, starting with guitar lessons, participat­ing in Montville High School Jazz Club and later creating his own rap music.

Tony is predecease­d by his cousin, Lawrence Barlow. Tony is survived by his loving mother, Joanna Black; sister and brother-in-law, Brittany and Patrick Giammalvo; niece, Nora Giammalvo; girlfriend, Tara Massey; grandparen­ts, Lawrence and Marianne Barlow; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, at Impellitte­ri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Burial and graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 638 Broad St., New London.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “Montville Music,” or specifical­ly to “Montville Jazz Club,” In Memory of Tony Black, Class of 2010, Montville High School, 800 Old Colchester Road, Oakdale, CT 06370.
