Waterford — Thomas L. Bentley, 79, of Waterford, formerly of New London and Niantic, passed away on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born on Nov. 7, 1937, in Westerly, R.I. to Roland and Mary (Rafferty) Bentley.

Thomas is predecease­d by his wife, Anita (Liggett) Bentley. He is survived by his sons, Kevin and his wife, Amy, and Tim and his wife, Carrie, Bentley. He also leaves six grandchild­ren, Erik, Kevin, Jessica, Sarah, Kyle and Nina.

Tom worked for Electric Boat as a supervisor/general foreman in the pipefittin­g department for 40 years. After his retirement, he worked in the meat department for Shaw’s Supermarke­t in Waterford and later Clinton. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed golf and playing cribbage with his friends at the Waterford Senior Center. He was a longtime coach and manager of the VFW New London National Little League team. Nothing made him prouder than watching his boys, or later his grandchild­ren, play sports. Tom was a lifetime member of the New London Elks Lodge 360, and in his younger years was a member of the Connecticu­t National Guard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, at St. Joseph Church, 17 Squire St., New London. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 16, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph School, 25 Squire St., New London, CT 06320.
