No. 4 UConn field hockey routs Northweste­rn

Storrs — Junior Amanda Collins scored a pair of goals as the fourthrank­ed UConn field hockey team cruised to a 7-0 win over No. 14 Northweste­rn on Sunday.

Goalie Nina Klein recorded her 26th career shutout for the Huskies (2-0) while Casey Umstead and Charlotte Veitner each had one goal and one assists, and Amelia Iacobucci, Antonioa Tiedtke and Margot van Hecking Colenbrand­er each scored once.

Women's soccer

• No. 15 Rutgers scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat No. 21 UConn 2-0 in Piscataway, N.J. Colby Ciarrocca scored in the 51st minute for the Scarlet Knights (3-0) while Ali Amirah added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute.

Mollie Kerrigan made six saves in goal for the Huskies (0-2-1), who were outshot 20-9.

Tigers beat ValleyCats

• Jordan Pearce laced a base hit into left field with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to score Garrett McCain with the eventual game winner as Connecticu­t took the rubber match over Hudson Valley 5-4 in a New York-Penn League game at Dodd Stadium. McCain's third hit of the game, a two-out double to right, started the winning rally. Pearce then delivered a soft liner than landed in front of Renegade left fielder Isaac Benard that scored McCain.

Earlier, McCain also singled and blasted his third home run of the weekend, a two-run shot to left that put the Tigers up 3-1. Dylan Rosa's fourth home run of the season accounted for Connecticu­t's first run. Colyn O'Connell, Victor Mueses (1-0) and Drew Carlton (eighth save) combined to pitch 4.1 innings of one-hit relief for the Tigers (31-31), who completed a 5-1 homestand.
