Stonington — Magdaline “Maggie” Efthimiou, 52, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Woman & Infants Hospital in Rhode Island, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Greece on March 2, 1965, to Konstantinos and Ekaterini (Raptis) Sianou. After completing school, she married her beloved husband, George Efthimiou, in Pelasgia Greece, on Dec. 28, 1986.

Maggie was a proud Greek American holding true to her heritage and maintaining its importance in her family’s lives with rich traditions and customs being passed down. She was an afternoon Greek school teacher for 15 years in Norwich and New London. Maggie was an active member of the church and embraced her faith and love of God. She returned to Greece every summer with her family to maintain her family ties in both the U.S. and Greece. Family was at the core of Maggie’s very being as she prepared traditional meals and desserts for all to enjoy. She felt honored to work side by side with her husband and her entire family in their business, Green Onion II Pizza in North Stonington. This matriarch will be deeply missed and her going on to Heaven has created a great void in many.
