Pawcatuck — John “Jack” P. Walsh, beloved husband of Carol (Lazarchick) Walsh, of William St., Pawcatuck, passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at the age of 81.

Born in Norwood, Mass., he was the son of the late Lawrence and Anna Walsh, formerly of Canton, Maine.

Jack was a 35-year veteran of the Stonington school system, having been a teacher and principal for West Broad Street Elementary and Pawcatuck Middle School from 1958-1993. He was also a member of the Pawcatuck Fire District, holding the position of treasurer for many years. After retiring from the school system, Jack dedicated six years to serving the residents of Stonington as a member of the Board of Finance. Jack also spent countless hours with the Pawcatuck Little League as a coach, member of the Board of Directors, equipment manager and “Painter Supreme.” He was a communican­t of St. Michael Church.

Jack was also very proud of his Irish heritage and spent years working on his family tree and correspond­ing and visiting with newfound cousins in Ireland.

Besides his wife, he will be sadly missed by his children, Melinda (Rick) Dubois of Oakland, Maine, John (Maura) Walsh of Needham, Mass., and Lawrence Walsh of Pawcatuck. He was the loving grandfathe­r of Benjamin Dubois, Samuel Dubois, John Walsh, Keelin Walsh, Brendan Walsh, Kerry Walsh, and Lawrence Walsh. He also leaves his brother William Walsh of Canton, Maine, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence Walsh, and sister, Ann (Walsh) Barrett.

Visiting hours are omitted. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck.
