Shirley Mindel
West Palm Beach, Fla. — Shirley (Solomon) Mindel, 92, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 in Florida.
Born in Middletown, she was raised in New London by her late parents, Nathan Max and Bessie (Shafner) Solomon. Shirley had lived in West Palm Beach since 1996, formerly living at Biltmore Street in Springfield, Mass. With her late husband, Michael Mindel, Shirley was the co-owner of the former Feldman Letter Service of Springfield, retiring in 1988.
Shirley was a member of B’nai Brith, the former Kodimoh Synagogue in Springfield, Mass., Cong. Anshei Shalom in West Palm Beach, the National Council of Jewish Women, a life member of Hadassah and was one of the founding members of the Pioneer Valley Yacht Club of Longmeadow, Mass. She was a member of the Century Village Sailing Club and Drama Club in West Palm Beach, where she was also an editor of the Century Village Club newspaper, and a columnist for the Snorkel Club.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Michael Mindel; and her brother, Edwin Solomon.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Michael Scheer of Longmeadow, Mass.; her sister, Marion Mindel of Springfield, Mass.; her brother, Sanford “Bud” Solomon of Niantic; her granddaughter, Amy and her husband, Jake Schofield, of Hollywood, Md.; her close friend, Leon Aronson of West Palm Beach; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at City of Homes Cemetery, Springfield, Mass. One shiva service will be held Sunday evening, at the home of Pat and Mike Scheer.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah or Sinai Temple.
