• Coast Guard Academy secured two New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference weekly honors. Freshman

and sophomore were selected as athlete of the week in cross country. In her CGA debut, Mooney ran the 10th fastest 5K time in program history by winning the Trinity Invitation­al Saturday in 19 minutes, 1.5 seconds. Her winning margin was almost 46 seconds. In the men’s race, Gallant took sixth in 17:04.8. • The men’s soccer team is on a ministreak, winning two straight. Junior

scored his first career goal in a 2-0 shutout of Pine Manor on Friday. The defense, led by Montville graduate

in goal, has allowed only one goal in three games. Sorenson, who’s started two games, has yet to give up a goal in 170 minutes of action. • Sophomore a former Waterford standout, has one goal and two assists for a team-best four points through three games for the women’s soccer team. Junior goalie owns a sparkling 0.45 goals against average, which ranks fourth in the conference. • The volleyball team plays its NEWMAC opener Tuesday night against Clark. Sophomore has a team-high 80 kills and ranks second with 59 digs while sophomore leads the team in assists with 194. • Connecticu­t College freshman

earned New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s soccer goalie of the week honors. He allowed only one goal in wins over Middlebury and Mitchell College. It was Conn’s first win over Middlebury since 1992. • It didn’t take long for freshman

to make an impact playing for the Conn College women’s soccer team. She has two goals, including the game-winner in overtime against No. 17 Middlebury on Saturday, through three games for the Camels (3-0). She developed her skills playing for Southeast Soccer Club.

Mariners riding a wave

• No better way to celebrate a home opener than winning in dramatic fashion. That’s what the Mitchell College women’s soccer team did against Lyndon State, posting a 2-1 overtime victory at Alumni Field. Coach

is relying on some local players. Freshman (Fitch), sophomore (NFA) and senior

(Montville) are on the roster. The Mariners (1-1) already are on the way to improving on last season’s 2-14 record.

• Montville graduate a senior, is a starting offensive guard for the WPI football team. His teammates include freshman wide receiver of Waterford and sophomore offensive lineman a Montville graduate. • UConn forward was named the American Athletic Conference rookie of the week in women’s soccer. She scored three goals in three games, helping the Huskies beat Arkansas, 2-1, and tie Fordham, 2-2. With five goals, Elmore is the team’s leading scorer. • of New London (and St. Bernard) is a freshman member of the St. Michael’s College women’s cross country team. In her first meet, she placed 37th overall at the Saint Anselm College Shacklette Invitation­al. Her time on the five kilometer course was 21 minutes, 23 seconds. Fellow St. Bernard graduate a freshman defender, has appeared in two games for the women’s soccer team. • Western Connecticu­t State University’s

a senior running back from New London, rushed for a game-high 116 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in a season-opening 48-47 win over Hartwick. He scored the game-winning touchdown on a six-yard run with 1:46 left in the game. He also had two receptions for seven yards. • a freshman goalie from East Lyme, has a 2.00 goals against average for the Lyndon College women’s soccer team. • Former NFA standout a Boston College transfer, made his debut playing for the Coastal Carolina football team in a 38-28 win over UMass on Sept 2.
