Leone Sylvia

Westerly — Leone G. (Winkler) Sylvia, 85, of Westerly, passed away on Sept. 11, 2017, at the Westerly Health Center.

Born in New London, she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Thelma Winkler.

She was predeceased by her first and only love, Joseph M. Sylvia Jr., with whom she shared many happy years in the raising of their eight children.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph and wife Barbara, Donald and wife Amanda, Charlie and wife Beth, John and Gary; and her daughters, Cheryl, Vera and husband Hal, and Jean. Leone is also survived by her brother Lionel, and sister-in-law Nila, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She attended Central Baptist Church in Westerly, was called “Lee” by many, her favorite color was blue, she loved the beach rose, was an avid reader and for many years enjoyed the family pets, Whitley, Spencer and Oliver.

Leone loved life. She knew tomorrow would always be there but knew too it is promised to no one. She lived simple but lived well. She found peace within herself and worried not.

The family would like to thank the Westerly Health Center for all of the outstanding care.

At her request, there are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be private. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, is in charge of the arrangements.
