Conn College gets by Colby in women’s soccer
Waterville, Maine — Connecticut College scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and beat Colby 3-1 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Sunday.
Lauren Steele gave Conn a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute and Livi Block's goal in the 68th minute made it 3-1. Michelle Medina's goal at 1:15 gave Conn (4-0-1, 2-0-1) a 1-0 lead. Sara Kogelmann assisted on Steele's goal. Conn outshot Colby 20-5. In other games: • UConn played to a 1-1 tie with Colorado College. Vivien Beil of UConn tied the game with 8:39 left in the first half. Kim Urbanek assisting on the goal and Mollie Kerrigan made three saves for UConn (2-4-3).
• Former Fitch standout Aly Clarke scored both goals for Eastern Connecticut State in a 2-1 double-overtime win over Castleton State. Clarke's goal in 7:31 into overtime was the winner and she gave ECSU (2-3-2) a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the second half.
Men's soccer
• Conn College and Colby played to a 2-2 tie in a NESCAC game. Conn's Chris Lockwood scored in the 88th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Ben Manoogian scored in the 26th minute to pull Conn even at 1-1. A.J. Marcucci made eight saves and Matt Butera, Tyler Hoadley and Liam Noonan had assists for Conn (3-0-2, 1-0-2).
College field hockey
• Top-ranked UConn won its seventh straight, beating No. 20 Boston University 8-1. Charlotte Veitner led the way with four goals and three assists and Svea Boker scored twice. Barbara Hoogen and Karlie Heistand also scored for the Huskies (7-0).
• Conn College lost to Colby 1-0 in a NESCAC game. Georgia Cassidy's goal in the 13th minute was the difference. Andi McGraw made five saves for Conn (1-4, 0-3).
H.S. cross country
• Williams School competed in the 16-team Choate Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Wallingford. In the girls' race Williams placed two runners in the top 50. Mary Madaus was 32nd and Grace Cassineri finished 43rd. Will Jarrett's 48th-place finish (19:58) led Williams in the boys' race.
Road Racing
• Frank Balantic of Niantic won the Jeffrey's Rainbow Run 5K on Friday in Niantic. Balantic won in 17:58 and Emily Miller of Waterford was the top women's finisher, coming in sixth at 20:26. Also making the top 10 were Brandon Dinsmore of East Lyme (18:34), Brian Whitney of Niantic (18:41), Noah Krishnaswami of East Lyme (19:25), Eric Ciocca of Northampton, Mass. (19:25), Ted Bergman of Salem (20:51), Lance Baier of Salem (20:57), Mike Manifold of Niantic (22:08) and Stephen Dinsmore of East Lyme (23:39).
NLL draft
• The New England Black Wolves have seven picks in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, which is being held Monday at Oakville, Ontario. New England owns the 8th and 10th picks in the first round, and will also make selections at 17, 27, 37, 46 and 54. The draft begins at 7 p.m. and can be watched live on NLLTV.com.
