Waterford girls hand Woodstock Academy first soccer loss

Waterford — Julia Florek had a goal and an assist as Waterford handed Woodstock Academy its first loss, 3-0, in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II girls' soccer game on Monday.

The Lancers (2-3, 1-2) led 2-0 at the half on goals by Ciana Chiappone (Florek assisted) and Khay Hatcher (Riley Mazzella assisted) before Florek delivered the final goal on a direct kick in the second half.

Goalie Skyler Henry made seven saves for Waterford, which lost three games last week and was outscored 10-0.

"This was a great win for us against the defending division champions, especially after a really tough week for us," Waterford coach Chris Ghiglia said. "We showed a lot of resiliency today."

Woodstock (4-1, 2-1) outshot Waterford 16-6. In other games: • Karlie Rowe scored a first-half goal and set up Kayla Markovitz's second half tally to lift East Lyme past Ledyard 2-0 in ECC Division I. Olivia Catanzaro added an assist and goalie Hayley Sorrentino made seven saves for the Vikings (3-2, 2-1). Ledyard fell to 3-1, 1-1.

• Mia Londregan scored both goals, including the game-winner four minutes into the first sudden death overtime, to give St. Bernard a 2-1 victory over Lyman Memorial in an ECC Division III game.

The Saints (2-0, 2-0) trailed 1-0 when Londregan scored her first goal (Brook Paradis assisted) eight minutes into the second half to tie the game. Her game-winner was assisted by Caroline Codner and goalie Briana Beverly made seven saves.

• Lauren Velazquez, assisted by Kara Beaupre, scored her first career goal just four minutes into the game and Montville made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over Stonington in an ECC Division II game.

Lauren Ross made five saves for the Indians (2-2, 2-1) while Hannah Lamb stopped 11 shots in goal for the Bears (1-5, 1-2).

• Tourtellot­te defeated Wheeler 8-1 in an ECC Division I game. Emma Morgan, assisted by Gracie Anderson, scored the lone goal for the Lions (0-2-1, 0-1) while goalies Kassie Startz and Kendra Perez combined to make 19 saves.

• Maddie Catlett scored two goals to power Fitch past New London, 5-0, in ECC Division I play. Ashley Spreng, Carly Zingus and Jessica Russo also scored for the Falcons (2-3, 1-1). Goalies Jaelynn Potter and Tareonna Rodriguez combined for five saves for the Whalers (1-3, 0-3).

• Zanaya Sligh scored a pair of goals as Norwich Tech/Holy Family defeated Grasso Tech 6-1 in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference. Emnet Miskiewicz, Lynda Santiago, Erin McBride and Alex Aguiar also scored goals while Rebecca Starkey added an assist for NT/HF (2-2-2) while Cheyla Archer scored for Grasso (0-3-1). Goalie Marisa Madra had three saves for NT/HF.

Boys

• Jack Piper's goal with two minutes left allowed East Hampton to escape with a 1-1 draw against Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats (0-2-2) had take a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Ethan Harris delivered a pass from the left flank that was headed in by Quinn Romeo. Ryan Tetreault made five saves in goal for Old Lyme, which held a 127 edge in shots.

• Unbeaten Wilcox Tech scored three goals in the first 20 minutes and cruised to a 6-3 win over Grasso Tech. Kevin Vazquez had two goals and an assist for the Eagles (1-2) while Allen Munton also scored a goal and goalie Joel Potter made 18 saves.
