Pawcatuck — Shirley “Honey” Jane Gonzales, 83, of Pawcatuck, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the wife of the late Herbert Dennis Gonzales Sr., and together they celebrated 56 years of marriage until his passing in 2013. Born on June 24, 1934, in Westerly, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Emma Jane (Burrell) Jordan.

Known for her kind heart, Shirley was a beautiful person inside and out. She enjoyed taking care of everybody, whether it was through homecooked meals or just being there for them. Traveling to visit family in California or Texas was always a priority, and she loved to spend the rest of her free time doing puzzles, playing games and cards. Most importantl­y, she loved her family. Shirley was a wonderful mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r and she will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

She leaves her three children, Shirley, Herb and Jeanetta Gonzales, all of California; her grandchild­ren, DeShawna Danielle Sawyer of Texas and Jordan Arthur Shafer of California; her great-grandchild­ren, Kenna and Landon Sawyer of Texas; her siblings, Jean Good of Connecticu­t, Nellie Conderino of California and Thomas Jordan of Connecticu­t; and several nieces and nephews, along with many family friends.

Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, Va. at a later date. Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, assisted the family with arrangemen­ts.
