Waterford freshman Dyjak breaks school record in 200 free

Waterford — Waterford freshman Ella Dyjak broke an 18-year-old school record in the 200-meter freestyle to highlight the Lancers' 103-75 victory over Fitch on Friday afternoon in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference swim meet.

Dyjak finished the race in 2 minutes, 13.76 seconds, breaking the old record of 2:16.74 set by Adrianna Payne in 1999.

Dyjak added a win in the 400 free (4:41.79) for Waterford (4-3, 4-3) while Elyse Gathy also won the pair of individual events — the 100 free (1:07.37) and 100 backstroke (1:12.28). Viviana Martinez (200 individual medley) and Sophia Podeszwa (diving) also won individual events for the Lancers.

Fitch (4-2, 4-2) picked up individual wins from Danielle Millerick (50 free), Kyle Heard (100 butterfly) and Holly Conlon (100 breaststro­ke).

In other meets:

• Katie Provost took first in the 200-yard freestyle and Ciara McDonough won the 100 butterfly in Norwch Free Academy's 101-64 win over Windham/Lyman Memorial in the ECC. Anna Ciriello finished first in diving while Marina Britos-Swain won the 200 IM and joined Quincie Quint, Sophie Chamberlai­n and Lane Perkins on the winning 400 freestyle relay team for the Wildcats (2-4, 2-3).

H.S. volleyball

• Fitch defeated Morgan 25-20, 2514 and 25-23 in a nonleague game. Olivia Carney had 17 assists for the Falcons (5-4) while Aby Hagley added 13 service points and seven digs, and Ciarra Jimenez had eight kills.

• Sophie Dubreuil had 11 digs and nine kills for East Lyme, which lost to Cheshire, 3-1. Game scores were 19-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 24-26. Jamie Stevens had eight kills and six aces for the Vikings (5-3).

• Una Barrett had seven digs and five assists for Old Lyme in a 3-0 loss to Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference. Game scores were 7-25, 19-25, 14-25.

• Norwich Tech swept Vinal Tech, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-17 behind Riley Riewerts who had 13 service points, nine aces and nine kills. Chloe Guzman had eight digs and Amaya Mendez added 10 points and six aces for the Warriors (9-2, 4-0).

• Sarah Spracklin had 11 kills, three aces and four digs for Wheeler in a 3-1 win over Putnam. Game scores were 25-5, 25-23, 11-25 and 25-18. Samantha Caster had three kills, two aces and eight assists and Marisa Mulhern had three kills, one ace and four digs for the Lions (4-5).

• Hand rallied for a 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23 and 15-13 win over Ledyard on Friday night. Sela Gill had nine serve points and 21 assists for the Colonels (5-5) while Cynthia Petersons added nine service points, nine kills and three blocks.

H.S. boys' soccer

• Evan Socha scored two goals while Kevin Porras had a goal and two assists to lead Norwich Tech to a 5-1 win over Goodwin Tech in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference, the Warriors' third straight win. Ben MacKenzie and Anthony Pomerleau each added one goal and one assist for Norwich Tech (3-5-1, 3-3).

H.S. girls' soccer

• Mia Londregan scored two goals and added an assist to help lift St. Bernard past Wheeler 8-2 in the ECC Division III. Emily Smith had a goal and two assists while Victoria Hannaford, Caroline Codner, Lindsay Clement, Sarah Forrester and Hope D'Amico also scored for the Saints (4-2, 4-2) and Brooke Paradis added two assists. Emma Morgan scored for Wheeler (0-7-1, 0-6), which also scored off an own goal.

Field hockey

• Kaylee Swanson and Kaylee Wilcox scored goals in Waterford's 2-1 win over East Lyme in the ECC. Molly Quiles assisted on both goals for the Lancers (4-2, 3-2). Katie Durkee set up Julia Bates' goal for the Vikings (34, 3-2).

Women's soccer

• Melise Knowles had a goal and an assist to power Wellesley past Coast Guard Academy 2-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Rachel Boohar made eight saves for the Bears (4-5, 1-2).

Women's volleyball

• Sam Hunter had 15 kills and 14 digs in Connecticu­t College's 3-1 loss to Amherst in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Game scores were 20-25, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-8. The Camels are 8-5, 0-4.
